Les Jeunes Correspondants camp was developed after various school principals and community partners identified a need among Anglophone and Allophone youth, who were learning the language during the school year, but lost their confidence and ease in communication during a long summer break during which they did not practice the French language.  Faced with this challenge, the CSDM and Loyola Centre developed a French immersion camp for teenagers.

The summer camp offered at the Loyola Centre includes a wide variety of activities, outings and much more!

This summer, youth will produce a series of podcasts. This educational project will allow youth to work on competencies of planning and structuring a text, writing, speaking and listening. Our camp counsellors include university students in linguistics, education and youth workers, all working together to promote the French language to the youth.

Due to the particular context of COVID-19, in 2020 we have made certain modifications to our programming. Youth will have to respect sanitary protocols and social distancing at all times. Any youth who has symptoms of COVID-19, who has been in contact with an infected person or who is awaiting the results of a COVID-19 test will not be admitted to camp. Most camp days will be shorter than normal and groups will be given particular times where they will be able to do activities without overpopulating the physical space. Schedules will be further elaborated with each group's camp counsellor.

All youth must bring their bus pass every day during the summer.  Please note that it is the parent’s responsibility to ensure that the youth has a valid student card with a photo.

Camp is completely free. Participants must wear appropriate clothing to camp.  Youth will be going on outings, will meet with a large diversity of people and will be very active.  Participants may only wear closed-toe sandals (no flip-flops please except for the pool).

Please note that the Centre is not responsible for theft or loss.  We ask that youth not bring electronic equipment to camp (iPods, PSP, etc.).  Youth may only use cell phones during lunch hour or during breaks.  All equipment may be confiscated if it becomes a distraction during workshops or activities.

We expect all participants to demonstrate good behaviour throughout the summer.  Our rules are based on three basic principles: I respect myself, I respect others, I respect my environment.
There is zero tolerance for violent or intolerant attitudes or behaviours.  Violence or intolerance will not be tolerated and will be dealt with immediately and severely. If youth are unable to show respectful behaviour, we reserve the right to suspend the participant from camp and in an extreme case, to expel the youth from camp.  Expulsion from camp is a last recourse, as we try to encourage the youth to change their behaviour and resolve conflicts in a non-violent manner.

Please note that this camp is only offered to students from École Secondaire Saint-Luc
