Camp Les Jeunes Correspondants

Teens 12-17 years old

Les Jeunes Correspondants 2017

Les Jeunes Correspondants camp was developed after various school principals and community partners identified a need among Anglophone and Allophone youth, who were learning the language during the school year, but loose their confidence and ease in communication during a long summer break where they do not practice the French language. Faced with this challenge, the CSDM and Loyola Centre developed a French immersion camp for teenagers.

Throughout the summer youth produce a weekly newspaper in French. Through investigating a theme, youth are motivated to improve their language skills so as to better communicate with their peers and the community. Our camp counsellors include university students in linguistics, education and youth workers, and all work together to promote the French language to the youth. Here is an example of our newspaper.

The summer camp offered at the Loyola Centre includes a wide variety of activities such as sports workshops, arts and crafts, theatre, cooperative games, outings to the local pool and Montreal's summer festivals and larger outings to La Ronde, the Biodome, the water park and much more!

Camp begins Monday, July 3rd and ends Friday, August 11th and is from Monday to Friday. Youth must arrive at camp at 9AM every morning. After 9AM there is no guarantee that the groups will still be present at the Centre and youth who arrive late might not be able to participate in the activity. Camp finishes at 4PM daily. In case of illness we ask you to please not send the youth to camp to avoid getting the other participants and staff sick. We would appreciate that you contact us via phone or email in case of absence to allow us to better plan our activities.

The participants will meet every day at the Loyola Centre, 4850 Coronation (Focus-Outreach high school).

Please ensure that participants have the following things EVERYDAY:
- A cold and healthy lunch. We will not be eating at the Centre everyday therefore we will not always have access to a microwave.
- A snack
- A bathing suit and a towel
- A water bottle
- Running shoes
- Sun screen

The camp is completely free, youth must however have a valid bus pass for the entire duration of the camp.

Participants must wear appropriate clothing to camp. Youth will be going on outings to various sites in Montreal, meeting with a large diversity of people and will be very active. The participants will receive a camp t-shirt in the first week and a weekly schedule will indicate days where wearing the shirt will be mandatory. Participants may only wear closed-toe sandals (no flip-flops please except for the pool).

Please note that the Centre is not responsible for theft or loss. We ask that youth not bring electronic equipment to camp (iPods, PSP, etc.). Youth may only use cell phones during lunch hour or during breaks. All equipment may be confiscated if it becomes a distraction during workshops or activities.
